Suburb Profiles - Glenorie

Glenorie was originally part of Dural and later known as North Dural. The name caused confusion for the post office and in April 1894, local resident William Black offered the Colony's Postmaster General two names: Hazeldene and Glenorie, both towns in Scotland. The name Glenorie was accepted because it had the support of the local progress association.

Whilst Glenorie does have a small collection of residential sized lots of land, the bulk of the district is comprised of acreage properties. Glenorie has been one of the Hills Districts fastest growing suburbs of the last few years as more and more people start to discover the beauty of the district.

Although the charming shopping village has recently become home to a large Woolworths, due to its abundance of fruit orchards residents of Glenorie are still more likely to pick up a local bargain from the fruit vendors commonly located on the suburbs roadsides.
